James Holman started the San Diego Reader, an alternative weekly newspaper, while attending graduate school in 1971. He also helped start Catholic monthly newspapers, such as San Francisco Faith and Los Angeles Mission. Holman’s campaign contributions mostly have gone to anti-abortion ballot measures. In the last decade, he donated more than $4.5 million to Propositions 73, 85 and 4, ballot measures that would have restricted minors’ ability to obtain abortions. All three failed.
